het beschrijf presents
hugo claus in stuttgart
Het beschrijf and the Literaturhaus Stuttgart paid tribute to Hugo Claus. A
selection of his visual art was presented, along with manuscripts and
letters. The result of an international exchange between the two literary
organisations.
On 10 February, the exhibition was officially opened in the presence of
authors Cees Nooteboom and Joachim
Sartorius. Nooteboom and Sartorius discussed the legacy of their
friend's oeuvre and read from his works. A selection of film fragments on
Claus' life and work was shown.
Hugo Claus, one of the greatest modern Dutch-language authors, died in 2008 at the age of 79. Hugo Claus was an artistic jack-of-all-trades, author of poems, novels, theatre texts, librettoes and movie scripts, as well as being a visual artist. Experimental drive, creative freedom, empowering modernization are all constants in the multifaceted oeuvre of Hugo Claus.
Org. Het beschrijf and Literaturhaus Stuttgart, with the support of the Flemish representation in Germany.

residences
The French Canadian writer Myriam Beaudoin sent us her new novel 33, chemin de la Baleine (Editions Leméac). Her residency with us in winter 2008 was spent writing a great part of it. Or put in her own words: "The last hundred pages have been written in Vollezele. These pages are the most beautiful and truest in the book."
